Ten firefighters from Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service hope to raise £10,000 by cycling 1000 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats over 10 days to raise money for Oaklands School in Edinburgh.
The team of ten cyclists and two drivers will set off from Land’s End on Friday 4th May, and plan to take a detour past the school on Wednesday 9th of May to hand in a cheque for the anticipated £10,000. The school caters for children and young adults who have additional support needs.
Station Commander Dave Dourley is organising the North Quest Fundraising Cycle, he explained: “The firefighters are from the White Watch at Crewe Toll fire station, and as the school is located at Ferry Road close to the station, the personnel are frequently involved with the school in various activities.
“We hope to raise at least enough to buy two ‘running bikes’ which cost £3000 each. We have so far raised half our target, but every penny will help, so we are keen to raise more.”
Maureen Mathieson, Head Teacher at Oaklands School said: “We are delighted that Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue are carrying out this epic fundraising journey for Oaklands School. The money will be put towards some fantastic new bikes for our pupils, which we know they will enjoy. We would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all of those involved and we wish them the best of luck.”
